- We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

- For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became truly human.

- 1 At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of what was known as the Italian Cohort,
- 2 a devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God.
- 3 About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God come in and say to him, “Cornelius.”
- 4 And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.
- 5 And now send men to Joppa and bring one Simon who is called Peter.
- 6 He is lodging with one Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.”
- 7 When the angel who spoke to him had departed, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier from among those who attended him,
- 8 and having related everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
- 9 The next day, as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour to pray.
- 10 And he became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance
- 11 and saw the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth.
- 12 In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air.
- 13 And there came a voice to him: “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”
- 14 But Peter said, “By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”
- 15 And the voice came to him again a second time, “What God has made clean, do not call common.”
- 16 This happened three times, and the thing was taken up at once to heaven.
- 17 Now while Peter was inwardly perplexed as to what the vision that he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood at the gate
- 18 and called out to ask whether Simon who was called Peter was lodging there.
- 19 And while Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are looking for you.
- 20 Rise and go down and accompany them without hesitation, for I have sent them.”
- 21 And Peter went down to the men and said, “I am the one you are looking for. What is the reason for your coming?”
- 22 And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and to hear what you have to say.”
- 23 So he invited them in to be his guests. The next day he rose and went away with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.
- 24 And on the following day they entered Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.
- 25 When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him.
- 26 But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I too am a man.”
- 27 And as he talked with him, he went in and found many persons gathered.
- 28 And he said to them, “You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with or to visit anyone of another nation, but God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean.
- 29 So when I was sent for, I came without objection. I ask then why you sent for me.”
- 30 And Cornelius said, “Four days ago, about this hour, I was praying in my house at the ninth hour, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing
- 31 and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God.
- 32 Send therefore to Joppa and ask for Simon who is called Peter. He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea.’
- 33 So I sent for you at once, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.”

- 40 But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up.
- 41 And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then, calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.
- 42 And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. 43 And he stayed in Joppa for many days with one Simon, a tanner.

- 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

- 12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.”
- 13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
- 14 The LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life.
- 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
- 16 To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.”
- 17 And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;

- 39 And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”

- 12 But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent out our fathers on their first visit.

- 24 And seeing one of them being wronged, he defended the oppressed man and avenged him by striking down the Egyptian.
- 25 He supposed that his brothers would understand that God was giving them salvation by his hand, but they did not understand.
- 26 And on the following day he appeared to them as they were quarreling and tried to reconcile them, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers. Why do you wrong each other?’
- 27 But the man who was wronging his neighbor thrust him aside, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?
- 28 Do you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’
- 29 At this retort Moses fled and became an exile in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons.
- 30 “Now when forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.
- 31 When Moses saw it, he was amazed at the sight, and as he drew near to look, there came the voice of the Lord:
- 32 ‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob.’ And Moses trembled and did not dare to look.
- 33 Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.
- 34 I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their groaning, and I have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you to Egypt.’
- 35 “This Moses, whom they rejected, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’–this man God sent as both ruler and redeemer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
- 36 This man led them out, performing wonders and signs in Egypt and at the Red Sea and in the wilderness for forty years.
- 37 This is the Moses who said to the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers.’
- 38 This is the one who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and with our fathers. He received living oracles to give to us.
- 39 Our fathers refused to obey him, but thrust him aside, and in their hearts they turned to Egypt,
- 40 saying to Aaron, ‘Make for us gods who will go before us. As for this Moses who led us out from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’
- 41 And they made a calf in those days, and offered a sacrifice to the idol and were rejoicing in the works of their hands.
- 42 But God turned away and gave them over to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: “‘Did you bring to me slain beasts and sacrifices, during the forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
- 43 You took up the tent of Moloch and the star of your god Rephan, the images that you made to worship; and I will send you into exile beyond Babylon.’
- 44 “Our fathers had the tent of witness in the wilderness, just as he who spoke to Moses directed him to make it, according to the pattern that he had seen.
- 45 Our fathers in turn brought it in with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out before our fathers. So it was until the days of David,
- 46 who found favor in the sight of God and asked to find a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.
- 47 But it was Solomon who built a house for him.
- 48 Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made by hands, as the prophet says,
- 49 “‘Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord, or what is the place of my rest?
- 50 Did not my hand make all these things?’
- 51 “You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you.
- 52 Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered,
- 53 you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.”
- 54 Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth at him.
- 55 But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

- 57 But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him.

- [Acts 5:1-11 ESV]
- 1 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property,
- 2 and with his wife’s knowledge he kept back for himself some of the proceeds and brought only a part of it and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
- 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land?
- 4 While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.”
- 5 When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard of it.
- 6 The young men rose and wrapped him up and carried him out and buried him.
- 7 After an interval of about three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.
- 8 And Peter said to her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much.” And she said, “Yes, for so much.”
- 9 But Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”
- 10 Immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. When the young men came in they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

- 1 All the congregation of the people of Israel moved on from the wilderness of Sin by stages, according to the commandment of the LORD, and camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.
- 2 Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” And Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the LORD?”
- 3 But the people thirsted there for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”
- 4 So Moses cried to the LORD, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.”

- 6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people will drink.” And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel.
- 7 And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the quarreling of the people of Israel, and because they tested the LORD by saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?”

- 6 Then Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the entrance of the tent of meeting and fell on their faces. And the glory of the LORD appeared to them,
- 7 and the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
- 8 “Take the staff, and assemble the congregation, you and Aaron your brother, and tell the rock before their eyes to yield its water. So you shall bring water out of the rock for them and give drink to the congregation and their cattle.”
- 9 And Moses took the staff from before the LORD, as he commanded him.
- 10 Then Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels: shall we bring water for you out of this rock?”
- 11 And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice, and water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock.
- 12 And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe in me, to uphold me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them.”
- 13 These are the waters of Meribah, where the people of Israel quarreled with the LORD, and through them he showed himself holy.
